Legalize Quaker Parakeets in NH is an information site to support the efforts to make Quaker Parakeets (Monk Parakeets) legal in the state of New Hampshire.
Background
Currently Quaker Parakeets are illegal based on a Fish & Game rule. This is not a law or statute.

In late January 2011 it was uncovered that this little known rule existed. It was never enforced until now. If you do own a Quaker keep it private. F&G is not actively looking for Quakers but if they are found the owners will be asked to remove the birds from the state.
Quakers are Legal in NH!!!
Governor Lynch has signed HB651 into law on May 31, 2011. Quakers are legal as of July 30, 2011.
This has been an amazing accomplishment by all involved to make this happen. Thank You to everyone that have taken the time to assist in this effort.
NH Senate Passes HB651
May 11,2011 - The NH Senate Passed HB651 without any amendments. On to Governor Lynch for signing.
Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee Hearing
May 5, 2010 - The committee voted 'Ought to Pass' today. This means that the bill should pass the Senate as the Senate typically follows a committees recommendation. If all goes as planned the Governor could sign by June. This is great news for Quaker Parakeet owners.

03/30/11 - HB651 was Passed without amendment today by the NH House. This is a major first step!
The NH House votes on HB651 on Wednesday. Email, write or call your representative by Tuesday March 29.

Ask them to:
1. Vote NO on the Amendment to HB651 that would make Quaker Parakeets illegal to own and sell in New Hampshire.
2. Vote YES on the original un-amended HB651 to make Quaker Parakeets Legal in the state of NH.
